Democracy Concepts
A Warm Welcome to You
Hello, my name is Isaac Bohulu, and I welcome you to this website.
This website is for thinkers, serious-minded individuals who desire to see practical changes to Ghana's democratic system, and are driven to seek such change through linking up with others.
The answer is "Yes", that is, if you consider the following developments in Ghana's democracy concerning.
Is This Worth Your Attention?
-
The concentration of power in the president, and its consequences on the rule of law
-
A partisan parliament driven by allegiance to political party interests
-
A stagnating economy that visits persistent hardship on the citizens
-
An underperforming district assembly system that fails to deliver development to the localities
-
Attacks on the courts and their potential effects on the judiciary
-
Attacks on the Electoral system and their potential effects on free and fair elections
-
Blatant acts of lawlessness by political party activists that tend to go unpunished
My Proposals for Change
My concerns about these developments have driven me to propose the following changes which I believe will greatly improve Ghana's democracy.
01
Separating the dual role of 'president of the republic and head of state' so that there is a separate president and a separate head of state.
02
Vesting the head of state role in a body called the 'state council' which should exercise supervisory authority over the president of the republic
03
Constituting parliament with district assembly representatives, rather than political party representatives
04
Requiring any person who seeks to become a member of parliament to first serve in the district assembly system
05
Barring the appointment of members of parliament as government ministers
06
Freeing the national economy from political party control
07
Restructuring the district assembly system to enable it deliver development to the localities
08
Actively promoting responsible citizenship.
